North Dakota is a state in the Great Plains of the United States, and its capital is Bismarck. The state is bordered by Montana, Minnesota, South Dakota and by two Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The state offers several round the clock tourist activities like hiking, biking, camping, boating, fishing, sailing, tubing, birding, photography, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and hunting. There is a lot in store for nature lovers, military buffs, history lovers and even archaeologists too as they traverse through North Dakota’s hills, lakes, old frontier forts and biodiversity hotspots that literally consist of hundreds of birds, animals, fish, and wildflowers species. This state is also one of the leading sites of Native American culture, and spending at least a week here would only give you more stuff to cherish.

Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site
Situated on either sides of the Knife River, the Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site is your go-to point to see archaeological remains of the local Native Indians. This area was a major trading and agricultural area used by three villages that were wiped out by a smallpox epidemic in 1837. This place is now survived by old earth-lodge dwellings, cache pits and travois trails. Most of these dwellings housed up to 20 families plus a few horses and dogs. The Knife River Indian Villages Historic Site is also home to a wide range of native and exotic flora and fauna.
