Oregon is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. This glorious holiday paradise spans through a diverse landscape consisting of Pacific coastline, the volcano-ringed Cascade Range, water bodies, dense forests (of evergreen and deciduous trees), prairies, canyons, national parks and a high desert. Central to all fanfare is the presence of the world’s single largest organism called the Armillaria ostoyae growing beneath the Malheur National Forest. It is a specific kind of honey fungus that is 8500 years old and spans an area equivalent to 1665 American football fields!
Crater Lake National Park
Established in 1902, Crater Lake National Park is the fifth-oldest national park in the US and the only national park in Oregon. It encompasses the caldera of America’s deepest lake called the Crater Lake (remnant of a destroyed volcano), Mount Mazama and the surrounding hills and forests. This lake is stunningly blue and all the water that enters the lake is only lost from evaporation because there are no streams running into or out of it.
Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area
The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area follows the course of the Columbia River as it cuts through the Cascade Mountain Range. The 12 million years old gorge is home to some picture-perfect scenery and country’s second highest waterfall called the Multnomah Falls. Visitors come here for its exceptional hiking and biking trails, camping facilities and tranquility. This further leads to changing landscape of temperate rainforest and dry grasslands over a distance of further 80 miles.
Cannon Beach
Cannon Beach is a city and an affluent tourist resort destination in Clatsop County that doubles up as a weekend getaway spot for those living in the nearby city of Portland. This beach is known for a 235 feet high igneous rock that is accessible at low tides. Also of note is a small cave system that goes through the rock and is visible from the coastline.
