Cocody Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art
Abidjan’s numero uno highlight, the Cocody Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art is home to a remarkable collection of modern and contemporary artworks by various Ivorian and African artists. It was established in 1993 and has ever since hosted several permanent and contemporary exhibitions. The Cocody Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art is home to 150 paintings, 40 sculptures, 15 ceramics, 11 tapestries and over 200 books. This museum is a brainchild of the local city council, called City Council of Cocody.
The Museum of Cote D'Ivoire
The Museum of Cote d'Ivoire in Abidjan is home to a mirror image of Abidjan’s nearly 120 years old history and culture. It is one of the best museums in the country and it wows its visitors with its remarkable collection of nearly 20000 artifacts including wooden masks, Ivorian musical instruments, terracotta statuettes and pottery items and shards. The Museum of Cote d'Ivoire is home to one of the largest uncatalogued art collections in the West Africa, central to which are several African artworks made of ivory and bronze.
Mount Nimba Strict Nature Reserve
Mount Nimba Strict Nature Reserve is a protected area and UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located in Guinea and Cote d'Ivoire. It is focally known for the Nimba Range, a unique geographical region that is home to an extensive range of flora and fauna. Some of the most famous endemic and native species found in Mount Nimba Strict Nature Reserve include single-site endemic species like viviparous toads and horseshoe bats. This natural reserve is dotted with over 2000 vascular plant species, 317 vertebrate species and more than 2500 invertebrate species in addition to several unknown species.
St. Paul Cathedral
St. Paul Cathedral serves as the mother church for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Abidjan. The first stone of the cathedral was consecrated by Pope John Paul II during his first pastoral visit to Cote d'Ivoire in 1980. This cathedral is located on a small hill offering a stunning panoramic view of the city below and overlooking the Bay of Cocody. St. Paul Cathedral is hallmarked by a tall concrete structure that stands in the shape of large human-shaped giant. Also of note here is a stained glass panel of Jesus showing the way forward in a raging storm and a panel showing some evangelists happily observing African people and palm trees.
