Doha’s landmark feature, Doha Corniche, is a 4.3 miles long waterfront boardwalk along Doha Bay. It is earmarked by the Corniche Street that connects the city’s business areas and Doha International Airport. Doha Cornice marks the rapid evolution of the city from a nondescript desert city of the 1950s to one gleaming and bubbling with skyscrapers and glamour ever since the oil boom of 1970s. Doha Corniche also assumes a pivotal position in furthering the country’s tourism. Some popular attractions here include the Museum of Islamic Art, the pyramid shaped Sheraton Hotel and one of the city’s oldest bird-watching sites - the Al Rumaila Park.
Museum of Islamic Art
The Museum of Islamic Art is the numero uno attraction along the Doha Corniche. It is built on an island built over an exclusively designed artificial peninsula serving Doha Bay. The Museum of Islamic Art and architecture is the first museum to showcase 1400 years of Islamic art in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf.
