Tresco Abbey Gardens
Tresco Abbey Gardens are located on the island of Tresco in the Isles of Scilly, United Kingdom. The gardens were made in the 19th century and are spread across 17 acres of land. The gardens are home to the ruins of a Benedictine abbey that was founded in 964 AD and the Priory of St. Nicholas in 1114 AD. Tresco Abbey Gardens also has a classic museum called Valhalla Museum that displays some of the most significant historical discoveries made on and near the island. Some of its highlights of the museum include shipwrecked remains, a total of 30 figureheads that date back to 19th century, name plates, decorative carvings and personal belongings of the former residents.
Bishop Rock
The Bishop Rock is a very small islet in the Isles of Scilly. It marks the eastern end of the North Atlantic shipping route used by ocean liners during 1900 to 1950 AD. Hallmarked by its mid-19th century lighthouse, this islet is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's smallest island that has a building over it. The lighthouse is a composite of three construction attempts, starting from 1847 and completing in 1858. The Bishop Lighthouse is also regarded as the ‘King of the lighthouses’ as it is the second tallest lighthouse in Britain and its construction had costed GBP 111,948 in mid-19th century.
Cromwell's Castle
Cromwell's Castle is an artillery fort overlooking New Grimsby harbor on the island of Tresco in the Isles of Scilly. It was built as a defensive structure after the Parliamentary invasion of the Isles of Scilly in 1651 and comprises a circular gun tower and an adjacent gun platform. It had wooden floors that are now lost, but the interiors still charm the visitors as it features a spiral staircase and a vaulted ‘bomb-Proof’ roof.
