Nebraska is a state in the Great Plains region of the United States of America and its capital is Lincoln. It is a delightful sum of history, culture, architecture, scenic beauty and fusion culinary arts. Some obvious highlights here include a historic region of pine forests and badlands formations (called the Pine Ridge), Western Hemisphere’s largest formation of sand dunes (called the Sand Hills) and a sprawling expanse of steep forested hills that stand lordly over flat valleys (called the Western Foothills). You shouldn’t miss out on the world's largest railroad classification yard called Bailey Yard and the 200 year old ever-so-significant ‘Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail.’
Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium
The Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha is home to one of the world's largest indoor deserts and indoor rainforests. It is also home to the world’s the largest nocturnal exhibit and the largest cat complex. Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium offers a large number of interactive exhibits, central to which is one that allows visitors to ‘touch’ stingrays or ride a camel. The zoo is Nebraska’s leading paid attendance attraction and has welcomed more than 25 million visitors over the past 40 years.
Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum
Home to one of the top collections of strategic aircraft in the US, the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum is a delight for those who love to see engines, guns and flying machines together. It focuses on the US Air Force’s large range of aircraft and nuclear missiles. This nearly 30 million dollar worth of facility exclusively features two aircraft display hangars, a traveling exhibit area, a children's interactive gallery, a 200-seat theater, a museum store and an aircraft restoration gallery. Its glass hall is made of 525 glass panels, inside which royally stands a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird of Vietnam War era.
Chimney Rock
Chimney Rock is a sandstone rock formation that tops at 325 feet over the North Platte Valley and is best noted for its bizarre spire formation. This prehistoric structure was the hallmark of the Great Western Migration, and finds two mentions that date back to 1813 and 1827. This rock is encircled by a park that can be best considered a photographer’s delight. Also of note here is a museum that offers an extensive insight into the history of the region and some hiking trails.
