Cheap Kimmirut Vacation Packages
Kimmirut is the southernmost community on Baffin Island and is located in the Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut (Canada). While literally implying ‘a heel’ in the native language Inuktitut here, it refers to a rocky terrain which is believed to be the oldest in the world.
The best time to visit Kimmirut is during the summer when the hills are laden with colorful flowers and the landscape allows for several Arctic adventures like hiking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing and hunting. The warmth during the season also breathes a new lease of life into the near-frozen Hudson Bay and fishing cod and char becomes the order of the day. The wild and marine life here is typical of the Arctic and is characterized by seals, walruses, whale, caribous, geese, arctic hares, arctic fox, arctic wolf and polar bears. The same is true for migratory seabirds like ptarmigans, ravens and lemmings. If you’re more towards the artistic side of things, you can’t possibly miss the Soper House Gallery. It displays some beautiful examples of Inuit carvings, beadwork, local gemstone jewelry, sealskin garments, traditional women's knives etc.
