Shetland Crofthouse Museum
It would be hard to decide if time has ever laid its icy hands on this cottage. Shetland Crofthouse Museum in Dunrossness is a restored cottage that appears just as it would have looked to a fisherman a hundred and fifty years ago on this island. It is an experience like none else to explore this iconic place from left, right and centre to get an absolute feel of the way things were then.
Jarlshof Prehistoric Settlement
Bronze Age, Iron Age, Pictish Period, Viking Age - you can keep on naming the periods and Jarlshof Prehistoric Settlement would still be standing. This Historic Scotland site contains heritages from 2500 BC up to the seventeenth century. The Bronze Age heritage is characterized here by several small oval houses with thick stone walls, plus various artifacts. The Iron Age ruins include several different types of structure like a defensive wall around the site. The Pictish period provides various works of art including a painted pebble and a symbol stone. The Viking age ruins depict many old tools and a detailed insight into life in Shetland Island, thus making it the largest of any such site in Britain.
