Mt Mackay:
Rising 350 meters over Thunder Bay, Mount Mackay offers sweeping views of the region's patchwork of swollen rock formations and rugged pines. The views include the Fort William First Nation. It is great to visit in evening when the valley seems like a sea of blinking lights. There is a walking trail that leads from the viewing area to the peak of the mountain. In addition to nature buffs, Mt Mackay is a wonderful place to visit for photography freaks as well.
Fort William Historical Park:
A living history site dedicated to showcasing the Canadian Fur Trade in early 1800s, Fort William Historical Park is a Canadian historical site located in Thunder Bay. This park was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in the year 1923. In addition, there is also an Amphitheater in the park hosting a variety of events. This amphitheater is one of the largest purpose-built outdoor entertainment venues in the country.
Thunder Bay Art Gallery:
The primary art gallery in Northwestern Ontario, Thunder Bay Art Gallery specializes in the work of modern First Nation artists. The gallery is located on the campus of Confederation College in Thunder Bay. Thunder Bay Art Gallery was established by the Thunder Bay Historical Museum Society in 1976 as a National Exhibition Center. The primary mandate of the gallery is to research, collect, and exhibit the works of modern First Nation artists, and to organize the travelling exhibitions from other museums and art galleries. Thunder Bay Art Gallery features three exhibition venues changing around every 6 weeks.
Thunder Bay Historical Museum:
Operated by the Thunder Bay Historical Museum Society, Thunder Bay Historical Museum is affiliated with the Canadian Museums Association, the Canadian Heritage Information Network, and Virtual Museum of Canada. The first floor of the museum boasts a gallery featuring permanent exhibits on arrayed aspects of local history. The second floor is named as the James Murphy Room and is used for meetings and programs. The third floor boasts the McKellar Games Room and special exhibits.
