Burj Khalifa
Situated in the downtown Dubai, Burj Khalifa is the tallest building of the world. The building is around 2,717 feet tall and has an "Observation Deck" on its 124th floor. From the deck one can capture the panoramic view of the city's skyline. With number of skyscrapers droning the Dubai's skyline photographers particularly like visiting Burj Khalifa because of the celestial surroundings. The building is surrounded by beautifully designed gardens having wide walkways. Visitors are advised to buy their tickets to the observation deck in advance to avoid long queues.
Al-Fahidi Fort (Museum)
The Al-Fahidi Fort was constructed in the year 1787. The walls of the fort are made of traditional coral-blocks which are held together using lime. In the past it was used as a royal residence, a seat of government, garrison, & prison. Post its renovation in the years 1971 & 1995 the fort at present is the city's well renowned museum. Displayed here are old maps of Emirates & Dubai, traditional boats, a palm-leaf house, wind-tower, weaponry, musical instruments, and traditional life-style of the people of Emirates.
Bastakia (Old Dubai)
The Bastakia Quarter or the Old Dubai was built during the late 19th century. Persian merchants who majorly dealt in textiles & pearls resided in the area. Till date some of the limestone & coral buildings are well preserved. The wind towers on the walls of these bulidings were a kind of air-conditioners for the homes. Also located here are two art galleries, Majlis & XVA. The Majlis Gallery holds collection of traditional Arab ceramics and furniture while the XVA Gallery is home to the contemporary art collection.
Jumeirah Mosque
The Jumeirah Mosque is said to be the most beautiful mosques in Dubai. It is a replica of Cairo's Al-Azhar Mosque (almost eight times in size). The Jumeriah Mosque is one of the best examples of the Islamic architecture. The two minarets of the mosque exhibit the subtle details in the stonework. The view of the mosque is unbeatable in evening when it is lit with floodlights. The guided tours to the mosque are available to provide better understanding of the religion & its faith. These tours are provided by the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Cultural Understanding. This center also organises several tours, lectures, Arabic classes, and cultural meals. The tour is operated on all days of the week except Friday.
