Hamed el-Nil Tomb

Hamed el-Nil Tomb is an impsoing mausolem housed in a large Islamic cemetery. Every Friday afternoon, there is held a Sufi ritual, where vibrant local troupe of dervishes related to the Sufi community perform the worship of Allah, The rituals start about 4:30 PM (5:00 PM in winters). Visitors are allowed to attend this incredible ritual and are also permitted to take pictures.

National Museum

Arguably the best museum in Sudan, National Museum is an excellent place to visit for history buffs. The ground floor of the museum shows the rise and fall of the kingdoms of Meroe, Kush, and Kerma. Visitors can see some imposing royal statues and well-preserved ancient artifacts from Kerma. On the first floor, there are several medieval Christian frescos that were removed from the ruined churches of Old Dongola and elsewhere. On the outside of the museum building are some temples that were rescued from the rising waters of Lake Nasser.

Ethnographical Museum

An apt place to visit to learn about the tribal life of the country, Ethnographical Museum boasts impressive assortment of tribal artifacts from all across Sudan. Items on display at this museum are placed in order according to the geographical location and demonstrate how people acclimatize each climatic area. Displays begin with the tropics of South Sudan, followed by the savannah regions, and ending up with the deserts of the north.

Commonwealth War Cemetery

Commonwealth War Cemetery is a Second World War Cemetery featuring a number of headstones, though no actual bodies. During the war, Allies used the city as a base to invade Ethiopia in order to expel the Italians. This cemetery commemorates this conflict. Commonwealth War Cemetery is also a tranquil place to explore.
