Haller Park
The Haller Park is a famous nature park and zoo in Mombasa. Formerly known as Bamburi Nature Trail, it is located along the Kenyan coast and offers a stunning backdrop to its extensive birdlife (consisting of over 160 species) and wildlife. This nature park is the result of relentless hard work of Swedish naturalist Rene Haller, who is credited for transforming this limestone quarry wasteland into a famous nature park during 1970s. Until a decade back, this park was also famous for the friendship of a hippopotamus and a tortoise.

This fort is classic masterpiece of Renaissance and had assumed immense strategic significance for securing trade routes on Indian Ocean by Portuguese colonial empire. Fort Jesus became a national park in 1958, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011 and now houses a museum (called Fort Jesus Museum) that showcases more than 400 years of the fort’s history.
Shimba Hills National Reserve
The Shimba Hills National Reserve is located about 20 miles from Mombasa in Coast Province, Kenya. It is a mix of coastal rainforest, woodlands, waterfalls and grasslands. Visitors are often wowed by its extensive biodiversity that include more rare plants and several birds and butterfly species that are found in the country. Shimba Hills National Reserve also has a headcount of approximately 700 elephants and 100 Sable antelopes - a number any nature reserve would be proud of.
