A city in Aleutians East Borough in the US state of Alaska, Cold Bay is one of the main commercial centers of Alaska Peninsula. The city is home to a major community event named "Silver Salmon Derby:, which is a fishing contest taking place every fall. There are two categories i.e. child and adult, for cash prizes for the largest fish. Cold Bay also organizes "Polar Bear Jump". The Derby ends up with a banquet and door prize giveaway in the school gymnasium. For tourists, the main point of attraction is the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge.
Izembek National Wildlife RefugeThe smallest of the National Wildlife Refuges located in the US state of Alaska, Izembek National Wildlife Refuge is located on the northwest coastal side of the central Aleutians East Borough. Mammal species that roam the refuge are caribou and brown bears. Reptiles species found in the park include snakes and rodents while the fishes in the area include golden eagles, gyrfalcons, rough-legged hawks, and Peale's peregrine falcons. Nearby coastal waters and lagoons are inhabited by sea otters, harbor seals, and Steller's sea lions.
