Lewisburg is a historical city in and the county seat of Greenbrier County in West Virginia, USA. The 19th century city is named after Col Andrew Lewis, a noted army general who had served in the American War of Independence. During its formative years, the city was built around a natural spring and has now graduated to a top-end tourist destination hallmarked by a laid-back ambiance, historic downtown and an aura of its Civil War history. This city is a launching pad to the nearby resort town of White Sulfur Springs that derives its name from an old clear spring of mineral water. If you’re coming to Lewisburg, you should not miss out on its two famous food festivals, Taste of Our Towns (in October) and the Chocolate Festival (in April), and a literary festival called the Lewisburg Literary Festival (in August).
Lost World CavernsLost World Caverns is 120-feet deep cavern into earth’s surface reaching out to a remarkable stockpile of ice and calcium structures. A star attraction here is 30 ton structure called the Snowy Chandelier, which is considered one of the nation's largest compound stalactites. The cavern consists of a natural history museum that contains West Virginia’s largest collection of mineral specimens and dinosaur replicas.
Organ CaveOrgan Cave is famous for a couple of notable distinctions: it is the second largest commercial cave in the eastern United States and is one of the oldest commercial caves in the country, ever since they were discovered in 1704. It has over 45 miles of passageways that you can explore via a guided 90-minute walking tour.
Taste of Our TownTaste of Our Town is one of the two most famous food festivals in Lewisburg. It is attended by thousands of people who dot the streets of historic downtown to taste some of the most famous delicacies like the General Lewis Inn’s pecan pie and Greenbrier Valley Baking Company’s crab cakes among a lot others that also fly off the shelves.
