Municipal Palace
Locally known as La Casa de los Altos, the Municipal Palace was the first
multi-storeyed building in Tehuacan. The beautiful building houses
'Tehuacan and its five regions' which is a mural of Rutilio, Luis and
Santiago Carpinteyro. The mural elaborates upon the history of Tehuacan
right up to the modern era. The Municipal Palace has Moorish inspired
elements, like its pointed window arches, and is definitely worth a visit.
Ex-Convent of San Francisco
The Church and Ex-Convent of San Francisco, built around the 16th century by the Franciscans, is an architectural gem in
Tehuacan. The facade of the church is simple and there is one tower. The
convent next door has an interior garden in addition to the cells of the
Friars. Its cloister houses well preserved murals and paintings with floral
motifs and the Franciscan cord.
The Museum of Mineralogy
The museum opened its doors in 1998 and houses the collection of the
scientist, Don Miguel Romero Sanchez. Throughout his life, Don was
dedicated to collecting samples of distinct minerals. The museum collection
includes more than ten thousand samples of minerals and a display of
fossils, meteorites and rocks. Today, visitors can see up close the various
shape, color and texture of these minerals.
