Manila is the capital of the Philippines. Nicknamed the ‘Pearl of the
Orient’, this city is an energetic metropolis and a thriving Asian megacity
whose historical identity hinges largely on its Colonial heritage and
several gruesome battles during the Second World War. Manila is home to
many architecturally-sound churches and monuments that tell the visitors a
lot about its 500-year-old existence. Manila is home to a top-notch street
food culture and for those that can palette spicy foods, it is just about
the place to be in. For those interested in the city’s architecture and
history, a visit each to Fort Santiago, San Augustin Church and Ayala
Museum will jumpstart your day.

Fort Santiago
Fort Santiago is one of the most important historical sites in Manila. This
500-year-old fortress was built to protect the city’s oldest district, the
Intramuros (or the Walled City). Fort Santiago is a battle-hardened
fortification that has braved through the worst of the Second World War,
and you can still see several bullet marks on its walls.
San Agustin Church
Manila was embroiled in many gruesome battles between the Allied Powers and
Imperial Japanese Army during the Second World War and was devastated by
serial air raids by the former’s air force. The San Agustin Church was the
only building that had was unscathed even after the entire Intramuros was
destroyed. This early 17th century church is the oldest church
in the Philippines and features highly decorated interiors.
Ayala Museum
The Ayala Museum is a world-class museum in manila focused on Filipino
culture, art and history. A star attraction here is a collection of 60
historically-significant dioramas that present a near-chronological order
