Intramuros (Latin word for ‘Within the Walls’)

Spread across 0.26 square miles, the Intramuros is a historic walled area in the city of Manila. It was built by the Colonial Spanish government in the late 16th century to protect the city from foreign invasions. The Intramuros hosted the seat of Colonial Spanish government and doubled up as the axis of all education and economy.

Ayala Museum

The Ayala Museum is home to a remarkable collection of comprises four floors of superbly curated exhibits on Filipino culture, art and history. At the heart of the collection is a collection of 60 dioramas related to the country’s history. Also, of note in the museum is a good collection of pre-Hispanic gold jewelry and ornaments made of precious stones.

Fort Santiago

Fort Santiago is a citadel originally built by Spanish conquistador, Miguel Lopez de Legazpi for the new established city of Manila in late 16th century. It is a part of the Intramuros. This iconic fort saw the worst of Spanish Colonia era and Second World War. It is here that national hero, Jose Rizal, was executed by the Spanish in 1896 and many American Prisoners of War were mascaraed here during the War in 1940s.
