18th century. The city’s postcard icon- the Statue of Liberty
has welcomed millions of immigrants for last 200 years. This immigration
has also made the city a hotbed of various ethnicities that together are
related to over 180 countries and they speak 800 languages among
themselves. Some highlights in the city are the Statue of Liberty, Chrysler
Building and the Brooklyn Bridge.
Statue of Liberty
Gifted by France to the US in 1886, the Statue of Liberty stands as the
national symbol of freedom and liberty. The 305-feet high neoclassical
superstructure is located on the Liberty Island in New York Harbor and is
the first thing that welcomes anyone into the city. It depicts a Roman
goddess called Libertas who stands with a torch in her right hand and a
tablet marked the date on which the US declared independence from colonial
Britain- July 4, 1776.
Chrysler Building
The Chrysler Building is the world’s tallest brick building that stands
using a steel structure. It measures 1046-feet from ground to its top spire
and is built in typical Art Deco architecture. The Chrysler Building had
debuted as the world's tallest building in 1931 before it was overtaken by
the Empire State Building in 11 months by Empire State Building.
Brooklyn Bridge
Built during 1869 and 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge is the world’s first
steel-wire suspension bridge located in New York City. It is also one of
the oldest roadway bridges in the country. The bridge’s total length is
