San Juan (Spanish for Saint John) is the capital and most populous
municipality in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, an unincorporated
territory of the United States. It is the second-oldest
European-established capital city in the Americas. Founded by Spanish
colonists in 1521, San Juan is the lifeline of the country because it is
the most important seaport and the center of its tourism. The city is home
to several top-class beaches and vintage Spanish architectural marvels, the
latter date back to early 16th century. Some star attractions
here are the Castillo San Cristobal, the Art Museum of Puerto Rico and the
Museum of the Americas.
Things to do in San Juan
Castillo San Cristóbal
Built during 1765 and 1783, the Castillo San Cristobal is the largest
fortification built by the Spanish in the Americas. It debuted as a
fortified structure on the hilltop of Cerro de San Cristobal that was
renamed thus to celebrate the Spanish victories after English and Dutch
invaders.
Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (or Art Museum of Puerto Rico)
The Art Museum of Puerto Rico in San Juan is one of the largest art museums
in the Caribbean. It is housed inside a state-of-the-art Neoclassic
superstructure. You should visit here to see its remarkable collection of
paintings, sculptures, and carvings- the oldest of which dates back to 17 th century.
Museo de las Americas (or Museum of the Americas)
The Museum of the Americas is home to one of the best collection of
artworks sourced from the Americas. Best part is that the collections are
segregated as per different regions and different time-periods to depict a
full-view of regional history and sociology.
