The Casino
Its name is a complete misnomer, because does not entertain any gambling facilities and is rather a social gathering place. The Casino was built by an American chewing gum industrialist named William Wrigley, Jr. in 1929. It was the tallest building in Los Angeles County after its completion for quite some time. It now consists of a ballroom and a movie theater. It was formerly associated with the Catalina Island Museum that is home to over 10000 photographs related to the island’s history plus a large collection of Catalina-made pottery and tiles, ship models, and much more.
The Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden
The Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden consists of a botanic garden and a memorial dedicated to William Wrigley Jr. on Catalina Island. The garden is home to those six remarkable and endemic plant species that grow exclusively and naturally on this island but nowhere else in the world. It is located at 30 minutes ride from the nearby downtown Avalon.
