Tokyo is the capital city of Japan and one of its 47 prefectures. Located on the island of Honshu, the city hosts the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. The city is the Japanese equivalent to the Hollywood of the US because it is famous as the place of shooting many Japanese movies, TV serials, animated series and novels, and video games. Tokyo delights its visitors with its top-class offerings in museums, theatres, festivals and its traditional Japanese sport- Sumo Wrestling.

Things to do in Tokyo

Imperial Palace

Central to all the attractions in Japan is the Imperial Palace. It is used by the Imperial family and is built on a mid-15th century site where a fortress was built. This fortress later became the starting point of modern Tokyo and the city built around it. The Imperia Palace features several 400-year-old parks and historical attractions. Visitors take a special interest in the Nijubashi Bridge here which is famous for its near-perfect reflection in the water flowing below it.

Ginza

Japan’s answer to America’s Times Square, Ginza is the busiest and most famous shopping area in Tokyo. It has been the preferred marketplace of the citizens for many centuries now because it is located on a place where Japan’s five ancient roads used to meet. Ginza features top-end shops and boutiques, big shops and imposing palatial stores. It is at its supreme best at weekends when an open-air market is organized with zero motorized traffic.

Senso-ji Temple

Tokyo’s Asakusa district is home to the city's most famous shrine- Senso-ji Temple. This architecturally exquisite and religiously famous temple is dedicated to the Buddhist goddess of compassion, Kannon and was built in 645 AD. The temple is visited by many temple doves every day, who are considered to be the goddess’s sacred messengers.
